Programme Description
With an endowment of approximately 1.7 billion EUR, the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU) is one of the largest foundations in Europe. Besides sponsoring projects, the DBU also awards scholarships to support young scientists. Entitled to apply are highly qualified young scientists who work on research subjects with a clear relation to current environmental issues and who contribute to solving these issues through their work. 60 doctoral scholarships are awarded every year. Foreign applicants are required to demonstrate, among other things, a good command of German. The scholarship amounts to 940.00 EUR per month, and is paid for a maximum of 3 years. In addition to the grant, a monthly standard allowance of 210.00 EUR is available for material and travel expenses.
