These are professional qualifications, which aim to equip you with the skills to research your own professional practice.
Full-time route: Full-time route: Candidates follow an extended induction programme which provides support for advanced study, including assignment writing and information and communications and technology (ICT) training. You take a compulsory research module to support you in developing and carrying out a research study (20 credits) and write a dissertation of 15-20,000 words (60 credits). You also select from a range of modules including: educational leadership and management; developing thinking skills; managing and supporting learning; counselling children and young people; special educational needs; emotional intelligence; research skills (100 credits). Teaching is via lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and interactive activities. Most modules are assessed by written assignments. Practitioner Enquiry route (part time): This programme is designed for candidates who wish to pursue postgraduate professional development while working in an educational context (usually schools, colleges and universities). The common theme is the development of teaching and learning, whether the focus is on students or colleagues. You select from a variety of modules including: investigating learning in the classroom; coaching for change in teaching; thinking through teaching; creating and translating professional knowledge; policy and practice in assessment; students, teachers and managers in popular culture. In each module the pedagogic approach is based on exploring the links between practice, theory and research and you use both reflective and enquiry-based techniques in your own professional context to construct a portfolio for assessment. It is also possible to select approved modules from other programmes. For the MEd in Practitioner Enquiry (180 credits) you undertake a dissertation (60 credits) and 120 credits of taught modules. For the Postgraduate Diploma in Practitioner Enquiry (120 credits) and Postgraduate Certificate in Practitioner Enquiry (60 credits) you complete taught modules, but do not undertake a dissertation.
